History

The History Faculty at Cammeraygal High School is a dynamic and academically rigorous department committed to inspiring curiosity about the past. We offer a comprehensive range of History courses that challenge students to think critically, analyse evidence, and develop a deep understanding of the people, events, and ideas that have shaped our world.

In Years 7–10, students study the mandatory History syllabus, developing essential historical knowledge and inquiry skills. Students with a particular passion for History can further extend their learning through Elective History in Years 9 and 10. This course provides opportunities to explore a diverse range of historical topics beyond the compulsory curriculum, encouraging students to pursue their interests while strengthening their research, analytical, and communication skills.

In Years 11 and 12, the faculty offers Aboriginal Studies, Ancient History, Modern History, Society and Culture, and Studies of Religion I, with History Extension available in Year 12. Across these courses, students engage with a wide variety of historical and contemporary issues while developing sophisticated skills in source analysis, critical thinking, historical research, and the construction of well-reasoned, evidence-based arguments.

A central focus of the History Faculty is to cultivate authentic, lifelong learning. We encourage students to engage thoughtfully with the past and present, critically examining changing values, beliefs, and perspectives in Australia and around the world. Through the effective use of technology, collaborative learning, and differentiated teaching practices, students are supported to achieve their personal best while developing the knowledge, skills, and confidence to thrive as active and informed citizens in an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world.
