Duke of Edinburgh's International Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award (Duke of Ed) is a globally recognised youth development program designed to empower young people aged 14 to 24. The Award encourages participants to set and achieve personal goals, build practical skills, contribute to their community, and challenge themselves through outdoor adventures.

The program is structured across three progressive levels:

Bronze (14 years+) — The entry level, where participants start developing skills, commitment, and confidence. Students usually start in Year 9 but can start in later years too.

Silver (15 years+) — A more challenging level, building on the Bronze experience and requiring a higher commitment. Students usually join after completing Bronze or can directly join from Year 10.

Gold (16 years+) — The highest level, focused on leadership, resilience, and community engagement, including a residential project. Students usually join after completing Silver and / or Bronze but can join directly from Year 11.

Each level involves four key areas: Voluntary Service, Physical Recreation, Skills Development, and Adventurous Journey. Gold Award participants also complete a Residential Project, further expanding their horizons.
